We started making sprouted lentil burgers and veggie crumble in 2012. Since then we have made thousands of patties. In 2018 we separated the farm from the veggie burger business and together with Andrew Densmore and Adam Loo Sproots Island Veggie Products was born. We remain a partner in Sproots but Andrew Densmore now produces the burgers.
Veggie burgers have become a mainstay in the diets of many of us. They are a convenient way of making a quick meal without meat. Our veggie burgers are a unique combination of sprouted lentils, millet and vegetables. They do not contain gluten or soy. They are a good source of protein.
Sprouted lentils are a nutritional powerhouse, the sprouting process releases the nutrients that have been concentrated in the seed, and makes them more available during digestion than they would be simply by cooking the lentils. They are rich in protein, minerals and vitamins. Even better, when lentils are combined with millet they make a complete protein.
You might not be familiar with millet, a protein rich seed originating from Africa. It is not commonly eaten here but you will love them in the burgers! If you would like to know more about millet check out this link.
